St Thomas à Becket C of E Primary School

EQUA Trust

School Uniform

At St Thomas à Becket, we want our children to be comfortable, active and ready to learn. In line with our play-based approach and commitment to active learning, we are pleased to offer families a choice between our traditional school uniform and  Active Uniform option. Both options maintain a smart appearance while giving children the flexibility to learn, explore and play throughout the school day.

School Uniform

Required

  • Grey or black trousers or skirt
  • Yellow polo shirt (school logo optional)
  • Blue sweatshirt or cardigan (school logo optional)
  • Grey socks or tights, or white socks
  • Black shoes (Velcro, buckle or lace-up)
  • A pair of wellington boots to be kept in school for outdoor play
  • Blue book bag (for reading book and reading record)
  • A named water bottle

Optional

  • Summer: Grey shorts, blue checked dress or playsuit
  • Summer: Supportive sandals may be worn. Please note that heels, flip-flops and backless shoes are not permitted.

Active Uniform

As part of our commitment to active, comfortable learning, children may wear the following items as an alternative to, or alongside, the traditional uniform:

Required

  • St Thomas à Becket school hoodie or fleece jacket (blue with school logo, available from Gooddies)
  • Yellow school polo shirt
  • Black joggers or leggings
  • Black or grey skort or shorts
  • Grey, black or white socks
  • Plain black trainers (no logos)

Families may choose whether their child wears the traditional uniform, the active uniform, or a combination of the two. Both options are equally acceptable and support our aim of ensuring children are comfortable, confident and ready to learn.

Please note: The Active Uniform can also be worn in place of PE kit and Forest School clothing. For Forest School sessions, arms and legs must continue to be covered.

PE Kit

Required

  • Blue sports hoodie with school badge or plain black, navy or blue jumper
  • Black or navy shorts or jogging bottoms
  • White or house-colour T-shirt (school logo optional)
  • Daps or trainers

Please note: Branded sportswear is not accepted as PE kit.

Forest School

Required

  • Wellington boots
  • Old clothes (plain colours, no brands)
  • Waterproof coat

Children wearing the Active Uniform for Forest School must still ensure that their arms and legs are fully covered.

Swimming

Required

  • Towel
  • Swimming costume or swimming trunks
  • Swimming bag

Optional

  • Goggles

Hair

Hair should be tied up if long. Hair accessories should be sensible, moderate and in school colours.

Jewellery

Small stud earrings and simple wristwatches may be worn. No other jewellery, wristbands, necklaces or rings should be worn in school.

Nail polish, hair dye and make-up are not permitted.

Mobile Phones

Mobile phones and similar devices must not be brought into school.

Lost Property

It cannot be emphasised strongly enough that all clothing and belongings should be clearly named.

Children often do not recognise their own possessions, and labelled items can save considerable time and stress for children, parents and staff. Lost property is kept in the basket in the entrance hall. Please ask at the school office if your child has misplaced an item.

Any unclaimed items remaining after a term will be donated to charity or included in the PTFA's fabric recycling initiative.
